Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. Alice is a teaching tool for introductory computing. It uses 3D graphics and a drag-and-drop interface to facilitate a more engaging, less frustrating first programming experience.

Alice 2.2

1. Go to: www.alice.org
2. Hover the mouse courser over the “Downloads” button near the top of the screen
3. Click on “Get Alice 2.2”
4. Click on the Download Mirror Site – This link may be different for different locations
5. Click on the Alice that is appropriate for your computer (e.g. Mac, Windows, Linux) – This will download a zipped file
6. Navigate to where your downloads are downloaded to (this is “Downloads” folder by default in Windows7)
7. Unzip the Alice 2.2 Folder – To unzip a folder, follow the instructions below:
   1. Right Click on the zipped folder
   2. Click on “Extract All…”
   3. Set a location for the program to be extracted to – note that if you leave it in the Downloads folder, it is more likely be erased in the future. My Documents folder or Programs folder may be a good decision for you.
   4. Click “Extract”
8. Once the folder has been extracted, you may start the Alice program by double clicking the Alice icon. Note: there will also be an Alice Slow and Steady icon, you should not need to run this ever.

Alice 3.0 BETA
Alice 3.0 is exciting, but BETA means it is still in testing and may have a few bugs. It is a lot more sophisticated, and may take a little more time to figure out. It works great for making animated videos, but is considerably more challenging for making games.

3. Click on “Get Alice 3 Beta”
4. Click on the large Download button
5. If the button does not work for you (it has not worked for me), instead of clicking on the download button, click on “Alice 3 download archive” below the “More Downloads:” Section
6. Click on the “Universal Zip” link – This will download a zippied Alice File
7. Unzip the downloaded file (See steps to unzip folder above in alice 2.2)
8. Double click the “Windows Batch File” alice (It will have a “.bat” extension).
